This Week’s Event Highlights: November 20 – 26

Monday, November 20: Mom-Day Monday Ornament Making at Odd Duck Coffee (10 am – noon)

Bring the littles to make a fun Christmas tree ornament or Thanksgiving turkey door hanger with Sea Monster Designs. Only $5. Kids get to pick from 4 vinyl designs, fill their own plastic ornament with fake snow, tinsel or corn and choose material for hanging.

Monday, November 20: MSU-Burns Fantasy of Lights Opening Ceremony (6 – 10 pm)

The MSU-Burns Fantasy of Lights will brighten the MSU campus beginning with the opening ceremony Monday, November 20, on the Hardin Lawn. For more information, please visit www.mwsu.edu/fantasy

MSU carillonneur Jim Quashnock will begin the festivities at 5:30 p.m. with holiday music on the Redwine Carillon. President Suzanne Shipley will flip the master switch at 6 p.m. and introduce a very special guest from the North Pole. A performance by the Ben Franklin Elementary Choir at 6:30 p.m. and the MSU Wind Ensemble at 7 p.m. in Akin Auditorium will round out the night. Food trucks will also be on site.

Display is open November 20-December 25, seven nights a week from dusk to 10 p.m. Admission is free and donations are welcome.

November 17 – December 23: ElectriCritters: A Lighted Christmas Display (6:30 – 8:30 pm)

ElectriCritters, River Bend Nature Center’s annual lighted Christmas display will be open every Friday and Saturday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm November 17th (closed November 18th) through December 23rd. With the flip of a switch, more than 60,000 lights on more than 150 lighted displays will glitter and sparkle, bringing the sights and sounds of the season to adults and children. Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the Butterfly Queen will make an appearance each night.

After exploring the lighted grounds come on into the Candy Cane Café and enjoy hot chocolate and apple cider, feast on hot cookies and popcorn, and shop for holiday gifts and stocking stuffers. River Bend is stroller and wheelchair accessible. ElectriCritters is the major fundraiser for River Bend Nature Center.

Proceeds help fund education programs enjoyed by over 35,000 children and adults of our community each year. Presale tickets will be on sale at the River Bend Nature Gift Shop for $4 per person starting November 1st; it will be $5 at the door, and children ages 1 and under are admitted free!

November 24 – December 24: Christmas Horse and Carriage Rides (6:30 pm)

Christmas Horse and Carriage rides through the Country Club! Enjoy a Horse-drawn carriage ride to see the dazzling Christmas lights through the beautiful Country Club neighborhood!

Saturday, November 25: Small Business Saturday (all day)

When small businesses succeed, we all do. So each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, shoppers, business owners, and organizations come together to Shop Small and share the places they love with the people they love. Join the movement this Nov 25 by shopping small and sharing your favorite places, and be sure to keep an eye out for local events happening in your community!
