This Week’s Event Highlight: Fall Comes to Smith’s Gardentown
I have to admit, I will be the very last person to say “there’s nothing to do in Wichita Falls!” because I know there is SO MUCH this community has to offer. But I have to say, this week, after quite a bit of digging, I didn’t find a whole lot of free, family-friendly events to share.
So I thought instead, I would share my favorite Fall tradition. (And pray it ushers in some actual Fall weather!!!)
Every year, my family and I visit Smith’s Gardentown when Fall arrives. (More specifically, when the PUMPKINS arrive.)
Their selection of pumpkins is mind-boggling, and there’s usually a lot to do. In the past, there have been hay bail castles, hay bail Halloween characters, and miniature pumpkin carriage rides for little ones, and of course visiting all the cute little ducklings at their pond.
This past weekend was the first that they began displaying all their pumpkins and Fall gear, so we took Teddy to see the animals at the petting zoo last weekend and he was beside himself.
Since then, I was able to speak with Smith’s and confirm that this year, EVERY DAY (not just weekends), starting September 22 through October, they will have the following for free, open to the public:
- Petting Zoo
- Hay Bail Maze
- Bounce Houses (weather permitting)
- Cinderella pumpkin rides
- Photo opps with hay bailcharacters (theme this year is Alice in Wonderland)
They will also have pony rides on Saturdays (11 am – 4 pm) and Sundays (noon – 4 pm) for a $5 fee.
And on Saturday, October 21, they will have Pumpkin Fest. This is a fundraiser for Hands to Hands Community Fund, where they will have all the activities mentioned above, plus food for sale. All of those activities will cost a small amount, but all proceeds will go to benefit Hands to Hands.
Finally, here’s some photos to get you in the pumpkin-spice holiday spirit:
