The Mother’s Day Hangover Giveaway: $100 Visa Gift Card

True to form, I did not get my act together to start this giveaway BEFORE Mother’s Day. But when I saw this meme I thought – why not do it anyway? Us moms could use something special every day of the year, especially after Mother’s Day when we’re all a.) recouping from chores that went undone on Sunday, b.) could use the time and money to do something we really, really want that maybe feels selfish and we didn’t entirely give ourselves permission to do on that specific day.

So, here’s your permission.

Mother’s Day is over, but our giveaway starts now. After hearing from so many moms on Facebook about what they really want for Mother’s Day, I realized the answers were too diverse to choose any one prize package. So instead, we’re going to give away a $100 Visa gift card, courtesy of Texoma Community Credit Union.

For this giveaway, however, there is ONE simple rule – spend it on something you WANT not something your family NEEDS. I’m giving you permission – no, a mandate – to be indulgent and frivolous.

(Yes, I know, the whole point of our blog is to help support you on the path to financial wellness, but this is something special!)

So, go get that mani/pedi you’ve been wanting, get a massage, go to one of our favorite local shops and get whatever you want. Get those shoes or that purse you always thought were too expensive to justify. Hire someone to clean your house so you can spend that time doing, well, literally anything else.

To Enter To Win: Earn 1 Entry for each activity below:

The deadline to enter is Tuesday, May 21 at 10 am, and one winner will be drawn at random and announced on Facebook at noon that same day.

Ready, set, go!

  1. I would buy plants and flowers for my front porch. I love coming home and seeing green plants and colorful flowers.

    1. I LOVE this idea!!! I always want to buy flowers for this same reason, but the cost adds up fast, and it always feels like an unnecessary expense. IOW, perfect use of your winnings, lol.

  2. I originally said I need someone to help me clean but I also need to get my hair done and that feels more frivolous so that’s what I’d do

    1. I approve!! Yeah, I’m at the point of getting basically two hair cuts a year (how sad is that?) because it’s just so expensive! Love that idea.

    1. YAS! Whew, I can imagine. Just with 1 I find it hard to squeeze those things in. You’re a rockstar!

    1. Thank you so much for that great idea!!! I’d love for our blog to be a great resource for grandparents too. 🙂 Maybe we can even recruit a grandparent to do some posts for us in the future!

  3. If I won, I’d spend it on a painting class or a mani/pedi. I love both of those things but I can never seem to spend the money on myself!

  4. For future posts, I really enjoy the “things to do this summer” type posts. Knowing which places have specials or activities on certain days is great! We live in Olney, so when we go to Wichita I try to make a day of it if I can. I have four kiddos between 3 months and 7 years, so I’m always looking for a good deal!

  5. I would love to see blogs on activities to do with your kids during summer break, rather at home or out and about.

    1. For future blog post topics? Definitely something worthy of sharing. If you have suggestions for possible guest bloggers that have personal experience related to this topic, let me know!

    1. Always my go-to if and when I can afford it. Then I get to spend the weekend with my kid, not cleaning up. Totally agree on this choice! 🙂

  6. I would buy one of the hair dryer brushes. It’s something I’ve wanted for a while but just can’t seem to pull the trigger on spending money on myself.

    1. Yay! See that’s exactly my intention for this giveaway. I have a list of those types of things too – where I just can’t pull the trigger because it feels too indulgent.

  7. I would get a mani/pedi, massage or even hire someone to help me get my house organized. I’ve been living with Lupus & RA and dealing with chemo to treat that. Now on top of ALL of that I’m now having seizures; need knee surgery and oral surgery. Happy Mother’s Day to me!

    1. You are a true warrior for tackling all of those challenges AND being a mom. I saw (and still see) my own mom struggle with very similar health issues, and I hope you know how amazing you are, even if maybe you don’t always feel like that’s true. You definitely deserve a spa day + help organizing for Mother’s Day!

  8. I’d like to hear what events are happening around me that pertain to especially events for 6-7 year olds
Seems my daughter and her friends fall in the crack of toddlers and “big kids”.

    1. Great feedback!! And we’d be happy to work that into blog posts. I know specifically the River Bend Nature Center, library, and Arts Council tend to have events geared towards kids in the 6-8 age range. Have you checked out our weekly events posts we share each Monday? Hope that helps!

    1. Amen to THAT. I can’t tell you how many times someone has offered to babysit so I can go on a date night, and I’ve thought to myself “Can you babysit so I can take a 3 hour nap in the other room!?!?” LOLOL.

    1. Thank you for the great feedback!! Have you checked out our weekly events posts on Monday? We try to share family-friendly events for a variety of ages, but knowing what people are looking for most is great to hear!

  9. I would like some recommendations on how to take a Disney World trip, what to pack on the trip, where to stay, and have a plan for the whole trip. I do not want to waste a lot of time thinking about where to stay where to go what time to get up and go to the park. I want an itinerary

  10. I would spend it on a fabulous pair of dress shoes! I have a friend that has allowed me to borrow a pair a few times in the last year for 2 different weddings I attended and it would be nice to own a pair myself. Definitely in the extra frivolous category for me.

  11. For future posts I would like to see posts above vacationing with kids both big budget (like Disney) and smaller scale like to a National Park. Also, posts on foster parents, adoptive parents, and grandparents or other family members who are parenting.

  12. I would spend the money on crafting supplies, lock myself away in my space and craft with a nice pina colada to keep me company!

  13. Probably get my hair deep conditioned. I forget to get it done regularly and then next thing I know I’m at the salon and my stylist says it’s been 6 months and I’m like “wha?! Already??”. I finally got my first haircut last year since being pregnant. My son is 4. That’s so sad lol.

  14. I would love to get a pani/pedi for once and a haircut! With 3 kids; 8, 4, and 2 months, It is hard to take some me time!

  15. After working nights and days for two semesters while being a mom and wife, I’d get a massage! Graduation was May 11 and I have already passed more boards and applied for jobs. A small break to kick my feet up sounds like a dream. ❤️❤️

  16. I would love to get my hair colored professionally. This is something I absolutely never factor in to our budget because I can do without. Or maybe many pedicures…that sounds nice too!

  17. I would love to see posts about summer activities to do with the kiddos that don’t cost an arm and a leg.

  18. I could use some posts on crazy toddlers to help me feel better and that I’m not the only one out there!

  19. If i won i would get a tattoo on my foot. Was always scared of the pain but this will give me incentive to actually do it.

  20. I would go buy new paints and craft stuff for hours and hours of fun! Maybe some new garden goods cause I love to garden!!

  21. I would love to see blogs on kids with separation anxiety . My daughter is 9 and it just makes my anxiety go through the roof when she cries for me .

  22. I would go and buy my self a new outfit or pair of shoes, maybe get my hair colored. The endless possibilities. Im a mom of 2 boys(even the dogs are boys) im the only girl in the house lol. With the giftcard i would treat myself, spend the day out relaxing. Now that i think of it i may just go watch a movie and get a massage.

  23. Fun kid recipes that are easy for a parent and child could do during summer. Fun activities to do on the inside and outside. Easy arts and crafts for all ages would be awesome

  24. I could spend the money on so many things, but probably those yoga classes that I’ve been wanting to take!

  25. One topic you could cover that I would like to see would be related to schools and choosing public or private school.

  26. I would love topics on games to play with toddlers, how to get toddlers to eat vegetables and how to get organized and juggle working, volunteering and mothering!

  27. I would spend the day getting myself a mani and pedi! That is really one of my favorite treats that allows me to get some peace and quiet!
