The Best Day(s) As A Mom; The 23rd

The day I became a mama and the day it happened again. Both of my children were born on the 23rd of the month. And as cliche as it may be that very moment they arrived and the minutes later snuggled up on my chest, those are some of my most treasured moments of life.

October 23, 2012, Oaklee, my firstborn, made me a mama and a better human being. Seven years later, I do not remember every detail of his birth, but I will never forget when I could hold him for the first time. The feelings of joy, love, and relief (and maybe some good old adrenaline) flowed through my teenage body. Then I realized, oh, wow! I do not know what I am doing, and well, I was scared. Eventually, I learned that no one necessarily knows what they are doing. Children do not come with manuals.

July 23, 2019, AJ, my second child, made me momma again. Who knew someone could love so big, or that the smell of pampers and meconium would flash me back to the moment I met Oaklee.

Now that they’ve arrived, my best days as a mom are those when my children hit significant milestones like saying their first words, sharing their truth and what God has written on their heart, watching them navigate friendships, and enjoying family time over s’ mores, pizza, and board games.

What about you? What are your best days as a mom?
