Summer Fun & Easy Recipes

Summertime is about family fun, effortless cooking, and simply chilling out. Here is what we love to do:

Family Fun: Paint Sample Scavenger Hunt

Go to your nearest store that has paint samples in different colors. Pick up primary colors and some that are a unique blend. Gather your family. You can pick teams or allow each person a turn, however, you wish to do it. How to play: shuffle and place cards face down. A player picks up the card and has 2 minutes to find something inside (or outside) that matches that color. The player with the most matches wins!

Effortless Cooking: Hamburger Hobo Dinner & Icebox Pie

I love making hobo meals in the crockpot. Actually, the crockpot is the summer winner here! Who likes to cook when it is soo hot outside. The basics are meats and vegetables wrapped in foil and put in your crockpot to cook as you enjoy your family. I usually use ground beef, potatoes, and carrots. I season a patty, chop up the carrots and potatoes. I wrap it in foil twice to seal in the juices. I set it on low for 8 hours or high for 4 if you need it by lunchtime. The possibilities are endless with this. Here is a link to the recipe.

Another recipe is icebox pie: Grab your favorite ice cream and a graham cracker pie shell. Let your ice cream get soft enough( but not melted) and scoop into the shell. Let it set for 2 hours or longer if you like. When it is ready, slice and eat. I heard that Blue Bell has a new flavor, Coconut cream pie ice cream. I cannot wait.

Simply Chill Out

Yes, enjoy the simple pleasures of the summer. Go swim, chase butterflies, make memories with those you love or just for yourself. Find out what great events we have in our city. Just enjoy.

What about you? What are your summer staples of things to do?
