Review & GIVEAWAY: Newly Renovated Cotton Patch Cafe

I was contacted recently by Cotton Patch Cafe to try out their newly renovated restaurant (which reopened August 22) and was treated to a free meal for my family in return for blogging about it. Since Cotton Patch is already my favorite source of guilty-pleasure southern cooking, I couldn’t say no. And I am happy to report that our meal was amazing, and the new atmosphere was really very cool.

My Takeaways:

Atmosphere: 5 Stars

The new design is supposed to be cotton mill-inspired, but feels very farmhouse-y and modern and warm. (And ya know, is anything without a Chip and Joanna Gaines influence these days?) The new barnwood style wall with painted lettering and brick wall with outline of Texas would have made for some great Insta-photos, if it wasn’t so busy and the people at the tables next to them wouldn’t have been so weirded out by my photoshoots. But here are some pictures I took from afar. (PS – LOVE those wire basket lamp shades and oversized mason jars!)

Kid Friendliness: 3.5 Stars

It helped that it was dinner on a Thursday night, with a lively loud crowd, since my two year old was LOUD and boisterous throughout the entire meal. No one really noticed over the energy level in the restaurant, and our wonderful waitress Elizabeth was very accommodating getting everything we needed to keep him entertained and fed. She was also very quick on getting us food, despite the crowd that night. (NO ONE KEEPS TEDDY FROM HIS MAC N CHEESE! NOBODY! Lol.) There was also a decent kids’ menu and booster seats were readily available.

My only complaint is that it wasn’t QUITE as kid-friendly as places like Chili’s that have the tablets on each table for ordering/checking out, but also letting your kid play games when they start growing impatient. And Red Robin, which gets a full five stars in my book for kid-friendliness by offering tablets, but also little chalkboards with various games on them, and balloons when you enter.

Food: 5 Stars

It turns out everything is good. Not just the guilty pleasures. Whenever I go to Cotton Patch, I do it UP. I get all the fried things, with a side of fried things and carbs and cheese. And did I mention carbs? (Which is exactly what I went for the last time they approached me about reviewing them.)

Well, last night I wasn’t really feeling something heavy so I got the Caesar salad with lemon salmon on top and it was SO STINKIN’ GOOD. I was so impressed with the quality of ingredients, and the salmon was perfectly seasoned and cooked. (Which is a feat when so many restaurants overcook theirs, so I barely ever order it.)

The rest of my family stuck with some classics, and we all finished by splitting the Dr. Pepper chocolate cake, which is a MUST if you’ve never had it.

Price: 4 Stars

We had a wonderful meal, which included an appetizer, 2 adult entrees, 1 kids meal, 1 tea and 2 waters, and a dessert for $47 total, not including tip. Our portions were large, and the food was amazing, so I feel like we got good value, but this is still more than I would normally pay for a family outing with just the three of us. It’s definitely not a place we would go every week for that reason, but certainly will be worked into our rotation for bigger occasions.

Overall: 4.5 Stars

All in all, I am so thankful for the opportunity because I think we will be coming back a lot more often for our family outings. Previous to this trip, we’d probably only eaten there 3 times in the 6 years we’ve lived in Wichita Falls. I see that frequency increasing in the future.

  1. I haven’t been to CP in forever, but that salad and desert look amazing!!!! I remember a dish where you could just pick 5 or 6 of the sides! Yum!

  2. I actually ordered the bacon appetizer yesterday and asked if they could not bread it, since I’m Keto, and it was amazing!! Pretty much bacon with seasoning and a side of ranch. I got the salmon too – equally amazing. I don’t typically finish my plate, but this was gone!

  3. omg the fish plate is so delious an can’t forget there bacon cheese Fries are amazing also 🙂 my fav place to eat

  4. My favorite is the chicken fried steak. I lived away from Texas for 18 years, and you can barely get your hands on a chicken fried steak up north. I am not saying I moved back for the chicken fried steak, but it may have been a deciding factor!!!
