That One Time I Ignored Dave Ramsey and Listened to Laura Bush Instead

Remember how I said Laura Bush reminded everyone at Heart of a Woman that as women we sometimes take care of everyone else and forget to take care of ourselves too?

Well, this week it occurred to me that I spend WAY more each year on my two dogs’ hair cuts than on my own.

Me = $40 x 2 a year = $80

Dogs = $45 x 2 dogs x 5 times a year = $450!!!!!!!!!

I haven’t had my hair cut in almost a year, and it’s been almost four years since I had any hair color of any kind. I tend to avoid the salon because it’s so expensive and takes so much time that I don’t have. But DEAR LORD I spend almost $500 a year on my DOGS but let myself look like a scraggly hot mess?

So, I made myself an appointment. (And was there for over two hours, but my husband knew better than to give me a hard time about being gone for so long.)

And I got myself some highlights and a long overdue trim:

(PS – Just use your imagination that I still have makeup left on in this picture.)

Personal victory achieved! (Budget slightly busted. Sorry, Dave Ramsey.)
