Health & Fitness For A Busy Mom

You know when life pumps the breaks?  And you end up eating the dashboard because you weren’t expecting it AT ALL?  That was me. Big time.

Real quick, here’s the “this & that” of my story-

  • This:  I am 38.  I have a 14 & 4 year old, both boys.  I am married. Work full-time. I maintain a household.
  • That:  I recently had neck surgery and was diagnosed with a nuero-disease.

You don’t have to be diagnosed with something to make life changes, but it certainly kicks it up a notch in the to-do list.  Here’s a few things I have started doing first thing in the morning that have made me feel better which helps me mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Drink, Stretch, Learn & Pray, Eat

Morning Drink

Every day I drink 8 oz of water with 1 lemon and a 1 tbs of Apple Cider Vinegar.  It’s not particularly delicious. I add some truvia and that helps, but I do this to reduce inflammation and to help get my digestion in order.  I found myself either constipated because of all the medication or bloated due to all the leafy greens and I was miserable. This drink and started regulating my guts in about 5 days.  That’s a really good turn around in my opinion and now it’s a staple.

10-15 min Morning Stretch

I enjoy stretching, however; I do not enjoy yoga. I attribute to this to the fact that I am a beginner and all the names and weird placements YouTube yoga stars put me in make me feel inadequate and fed up.  I also do not want to Ohm. With that being said, I have found one girl that I enjoyed enough to learn from and now I just do the stretches she taught me while I watch something else.  Here is the link to the YouTube tutorial >> Jen Hillman Yoga for Beginners

Learn & Pray

I get my teaching + stretching + prayer time all in together now that I have learned how to do the stretches I want.  Sometimes I have 10 minutes and sometimes I have an hour to really sink into the Word. I like Elevation Church sermons and Pastor Furtick calls me out specifically all the time.  So I know that God uses these videos to grow me. Look around on YouTube for devotionals and teachings to help bring perspective to the beginning of your day. Here is the link to Elevation Church YouTube Page >> Elevation Church

Eat

Smoothies or eggs.  One day I will turn into one of these from over consumption!  I have a couple of low sugar smoothies I gravitate to. The SAVING GRACE of these smoothies has been the Chia Seeds & Greek Yogurt.  Chia helps you to feel full longer and the yogurt helps with digestion and gives them a creamy thickness.

¾ cup Plain Greek Yogurt

1 Scoop Protein Powder

1 Scoop Collagen Peptides

1 Tbsp Chia Seeds

3-4 Lg Dashes of Allspice

Eggs + Tajin has changed my morning food routine for the better.  Tajin is super tangy with a hint of chili and it just makes eggs dance and me dance while cooking them 😉  If you love food, you know what I am talking about!

I fry 3 eggs in a small skillet with Coconut Oil.

I hope that these suggestions help you to begin your journey of taking better care of yourself.  Your family will thank you, your body will thank you, and years down the road you will remember when the dash board became a blessing!
